I’m 26 & made £8.7k in 100 days from more than a dozen side hustles & it’s helped me save for a house deposit

SAVING money for a house deposit can be daunting, but one 26-year-old shared how she managed to put aside £8,700 in just 100 days.

Jackie Mitchell challenged herself to put aside £80 a day doing side hustles and with passive income streams.

Jackie, from Ohio, tried over 12 side hustles in order to find which one was best for her and her saving goal.

Her and her husband had been saving up, but Jackie wanted to tackle the final amount in 100 days.

She not only achieved her goal, but did it 11 days early.

Jackie told CNBC Make It: “It’s just been so surprising reminding myself that little bits of money make a big difference.

“It’s kind of an encouragement to think that even if you make $5 a day, $5 is way better than $0.”

One of the side hustles she recommended and gave a 5/5 rating to was survey site Prolific.

In a video on her @jaclynmitchelll account, she said: “A lot of these surveys are like 10 to 15 minutes, they are not long, but you can see the hourly rate you are getting for them.”

Her next recommendation was doing focus groups to get some extra cash, and you can earn $100 (£80) for an hour’s work.

She also loved Swagbucks, where you can earn rewards from completing surveys.

The length and amount of cash you receive for surveys varies – some can take five to 10 minutes whereas others can take days.

Either way, they can be a great earner if you’ve got some spare time to kill in the evening or on weekends.

Jackie has also had some brand deals come from launching a TikTok series about her challenge, but says she “doesn’t want her page to become a big ad.”

Another way she earned money was getting paid to meal prep for a friend.

She explained: “I’d cook in his apartment and I liked it but didn’t feel like I had a good rhythm to it and I felt like I was stressed the whole time so I need to get better at pre-planning everything and I think it could be fun.”

One of her best paying side hustles is data annotation, but Jackie advised it is quite difficult as you need to pass an assessment first, and then you edit and tag large sets of data.

She also sold on Facebook Marketplace as a “supplement” but said she would find it hard to make $100 a day off it.

Jackie advised that if you have a specific amount of money you want to earn, you should break it down into smaller goals.

She explained: “If you’ve got a goal of paying off a car loan that’s $8,000 (£6,422), try to calculate how much you can reasonably do in six months. What does that look like every month, every week, every day?”

She’s racked up over 125,000 followers on TikTok thanks to her money-saving hacks and advises sites like Reddit for finding out about new side hustles.

She added: “There’s a really good Reddit called r/beermoney and it’s just what it sounds like — it’s not going to be anything like a remote work from home job that’s going to pay the full-time bills, but it is going to give you a little bit of extra money on the side.”

However, she admits that saving money can come at a price, and she often sacrifices social events to spend three to four hours a day on her side hustles.
